Write a list of your favorite meals. What are they? Italian dishes may seem carb-centric, but they can be replicated with a much lower glycemic index. Leverage vegetable and other low carb substitutions wherever possible.
Don’t forget beverages count. If you are a beer drinker, you may find it hard to replace beer with a lighter alternative, but you can do it! All alcohol metabolizes as sugar, so indulge lightly with any type of alcoholic drink.
If you prefer beer, save it for special occasions, switch to light beer or find a different beverage of choice. Also, use moderation with wine and switch ultra-sweet, fruity drinks to a lower carb version, such as gin and tonics, vodka sodas, martinis, or other such drinks. Sweeten or flavor them with citrus but avoid sweeteners such as fruit juice or sodas. Or use sugar-free sodas, but again, only in moderation as the artificial sweeteners aren’t that healthy either.
